The best thing about summer jobs for teens is that you can do them full time, compared to when you work during the school year when you are only allowed to work up to 8 hours a week and not later than 7 in the evening. Summer jobs can be done up to 8 hours per day, so you can calculate in your head how much you can get each week if you work full time. Look at this list of jobs and see which one you can do.

Lifeguard

Being a lifeguard is a good job during the summer because you get to be at the beach most days and still get paid for being there. Summer is all about going to the beach and stuff, and being a lifeguard allows you to do that and at the same time get to look after beachgoers and see if anything is amiss and if anyone needs help. As long as you know how to swim and know, basic life support, this job is for you. You can still be with your friends at the beach although you have to focus more on looking out at sea and on the beach.

Landscaping

June to September are the best times for one of these summer jobs for teens. If gardening and landscaping is up your alley, you can ask you parents if they will let you do the landscaping in your yard and charge them for the job. Also, you can go around the neighborhood and even ask your parents’ friends if they are in need of someone who will take care of their garden. A lot of homeowners hire landscapers and gardeners to tend to their gardens because f their lack of time to dedicate to the task. You will surely get clients and they may even recommend you to their friends if they see you did a great job. You may want to invest in gardening tools to do your job, or if your parents have them, you can borrow them.

Animal Shelter Worker

Helping at the animal shelter is one of the best summer jobs for teens. You can help take care of the animals at the shelter: you can feed them, help staff feed and bathe them and clean their kennels to maintain the shelter’s cleanliness. You can do this several times each week, or even everyday if you do not have any other summer job lined up. Taking care of the animals will give a sense of responsibility and a love for them. You can ask your friends if they want to adopt one of the animals at the shelter, or you can ask your parents if you can adopt one.

Camp Adviser

Summer camp lets you teach smaller kids or kids the same age as yours and also enjoy the activities at the camp while serving as their counselor or adviser. You can impart your knowledge and skills – whatever skills you have – to the kids and from friendships that you can bring outside of summer camp. You get to earn money while gaining new friends and good memories of summer.

Messenger

Messengering is a fairly easy job. If you own a car, you may use it to make your task easier and a lot faster. Or you can use a bike. Apply at offices and ask if they are in need of a messenger for the summer. Aside from the task of delivering what you are asked to take to the other party, you will learn how to be responsible for your charge. Whether it is money, important documents and whatnot, you have to take great caution not to misplace or lose them in transit. This will be a great help later on in life.

Working during the summer not only allows teens to earn money that you can use for whatever purpose: fund your college tuition, buy that new phone or Xbox you’ve been eyeing on but your parents won’t buy you, save for future expenses, etc. Earning money is not the only thing that you will earn on your summer job. Most importantly, you will earn new knowledge, skills and traits that will be handy when you become an adult.
