NerdWallet’s Best Wells Fargo Credit Cards

The best Wells Fargo credit cards come with healthy rewards on travel, gas and restaurant spending, and include a secured credit card with one of the highest maximum credit limits available anywhere. Here are the Nerds’ picks for the top Wells Fargo credit cards.

For travel:

Wells Fargo has only one true travel card, and it’s a decent offering if you’re willing to pay an annual fee. With the Wells Fargo Propel World American Express, you’ll earn 3X points on airlines, 2X points on hotels and 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases. New cardholders can even earn a bonus to start: 40,000 points when you spend $3,000 in net purchases in the first 3 months.

Like all Wells Fargo rewards credit cards, the Wells Fargo Propel World American Express earns Wells Fargo Rewards points which are generally worth 1 cent apiece, but can be worth up to 2 cents per point when redeemed for travel.

This card’s annual fee is waived the first year and $175 every year thereafter, so you’ll have time to decide whether it’s worth keeping long-term.

For gas and restaurants:

If you spend a lot of money at the pump or dining out, check out the Wells Fargo Propel 365 American Express. This card earns an unlimited 3X Wells Fargo Rewards points for every dollar spent at U.S. gas stations, 2X points at U.S. restaurants and 1 point per dollar everywhere else. Plus, new cardholders can earn a sign-up bonus: 20,000 points when you spend $3,000 in net purchases in the first 3 months.

This card is also a decent option for financing purchases — either new ones, or those you’ve already put on another card. It has an introductory APR of 0% for 12 months on purchases and balance transfers, and then the ongoing APR of 13.99% - 21.99% Variable .

The annual fee is waived the first year and $45 every year thereafter, which isn’t bad considering the high redemption value on this card — especially when points are redeemed for travel. But, if you’d like similar redemption rates on a wider variety of purchases, it might be worth exploring some the industry’s other top rewards cards.

For building credit:

If you’re trying to improve bad credit, a secured credit card is often the best — and sometimes the only — option. And as far as secured cards go, the Wells Fargo Secured Visa Card is one of the best.

With a secured card, you have to put down a deposit, which is usually equal to your credit limit. While most secured cards typically limit deposits — and therefore credit limits — to a few hundred dollars, the Wells Fargo Secured Visa Card allows cardholders to deposit up to $10,000.

Such a high potential limit gives cardholders flexibility to work toward building credit without worrying about hitting their limit. Not to mention, the Wells Fargo Secured Visa Card reports to all three credit bureaus, so responsible use of the card will work toward improving your credit score.

This card’s annual fee is $25, which may be a fair price to pay to build your credit, whether you’re just starting out or are trying to repair past mistakes.
